A poem I made 7 years ago…
I was scrolling through social media when the clock struck midnight. I immediately checked my Memories on Facebook (it’s become a hobby — do you do this too? Haha).
With Artificial Intelligence (AI) being so prevalent now, it’s easy to generate essays, letters, poems, and more just by inputting a prompt.
But today, I’d like to give a shoutout to my 16-year-old self for writing this “SAY NO to ADDICTION 💪🏻” poem.
It was a requirement for a course I was taking during Senior High School at my university. The goal is to raise awareness about “Anti Drug Campaign”.
“SAY NO to ADDICTION 💪🏻”
Carried away with what I felt
Peer pressured is where I melt
My friends told me to smoke
I did so I can’t get choked
They invited me to a bar
Drunk like there’s no war
They want me to forget
So, I’ll be there bet
They invited me to a house
Thought that they’ll give me applause
Then they made me abuse
Drugs that I can’t excuse
It takes away my stress
But it keeps me depressed
I gamble to meet my needs
But I think it’s not my deeds
I thought he’s a friend indeed
He shouldn’t make me smoke that weed
There’s no turning back
Wish I could smack his back
I learned that there is no intervention
I should start with prevention
And say no to addiction
Addiction can often start with a simple choice — one that seems small at the moment but can lead to a path we never intended to take. It’s easy to get caught up in the pressures and temptations around us, but true strength comes from knowing our worth and having the courage to say no. Remember, prevention starts with awareness. By making conscious choices today, we shape a healthier and happier future for ourselves and those we care about.
And talking about AI — no matter how advanced AI becomes, it’s our humanity — our ability to choose wisely, to learn, and to grow — that truly makes us unique. Let’s use technology as a tool, but never let it overshadow the importance of our own choices and integrity.
