On November 18, I received a message from our Instructor that our team was invited to be part of the Pitching Competition on November 24 (My Birthday).

Message from Engr. Bronson Mabulay

The said competition celebrates the National Science and Technology Week 2021 in the Philippines. The organizers informed us about the necessary things to do, the program flow, and the pitching sequence during the orientation.

The judges for this competition are coming from different sectors and departments namely the Department of Information and Communication Technology(DICT) — Mindanao Cluster 2, Business Development Division of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) from Misamis Oriental.

It was a 5-days preparation for our pitch deck. Luckily, we could use most of the slides from our previous competition, which I wrote from my last blog, and re-edit some of which are required for the pitch deck.

I learned three things during this competition; Be Clear, Concise, and Persuasive.

Be Clear; there will always be a time limit; it may be 5 to 7 minutes or more, depending on the organizers. When you pitch, be transparent, use the accurate words needed for your audience to know what your product is all about, like explaining your product to the eighth year’s old kid.

Be Concise; In connection to my first point, eliminate unnecessary things that are not or less related to your product. You do not want to talk about them separately, two things that will make your audience confuse.

Be Persuasive; This is the most crucial point I have learned, be persuasive. You pitch a product that you want your audience to use, buy and support. Engage your audience in your talk, use stories and examples if possible, and bring them into the conversation to realize that your product is all they need to solve this long problem.

Adding to this, I remember a judge commented that they wanted to download our application right at the moment because of how the judge was persuaded of the pitch. The judge also added that our product is highly needed and relevant to the status quo.

We received a lot of positive feedback and comments from the competition judges. (Lucky day is my birthday!!!)

Remember to be clear, concise, and persuasive. Everything is a learning process; practice, and you will be close to perfection.
